Ross McClelland
Ross McClelland was born in 1961 and grew up in East Belfast. Apart from tuition at school, Ross has received no formal training and is largely self taught. Since 2001 Ross has been developing his art as a serious interest.
He specialises in figurative work, especially portraiture, where his chosen medium of pastel is charged with vibrant and varied use of contrasting shades and colours. In using pastels, Ross is attempting to work with the medium in a different way to the traditional methods and styles. In addition he works in acrylics and occasionally oils.
In terms of portraiture Ross is interested in presenting people [quite often famous people] in a different way to their actual image, but still recognisably that person. The aim is always to identify something about that person that the camera has not captured.
He is a full member of the Pastel Society of Ireland and has exhibited at a number of their exhibitions over the last few years.
